So many people have passed through our workshop door and walked away with a beautiful frame drum, each one crafted and fashioned individually by their own hands. Here at JamBeats we will guide you through that journey from start to finish, encouraging you to step out of and slow down your busy life for a few hours and to enter in to an experience that is beneficial in so many ways.
Making music, drum healing, sound vibration and meditation are but a few reasons that people come to us for drum making.
There is nothing quite like investing your time and energy in creating such a wonderful instrument and it will be with you for a lifetime.
Our rawhide is sourced in the UK and usually comes from the red deer. The deer live naturally in the wild and the skins we use are a wonderful way to keep the spirit of the animal alive once that spirit has been released from its earthly ties.
Our hoops are made of Ash.
Our Drum Making Workshops have a loose timetable – usually running between 10am and 4pm with around 45 minutes built in for lunch. We can work with up to 4 people at time in our own Burnham-on-Crouch based workshop. At present, we are able to keep the cost down to £180 per person for a 14” drum, £190 for 16″ and £200 for 18″, which are very competitive prices – but this does depend upon the cost of raw materials and can therefore be subject to change.
A deposit of £50 required upon booking.
If you’d like to host your own drum-making day instead of coming to us, we can do that – we’ll come to you and bring everything you will need.
Drum-making can offer people a fascinating glimpse in to the ways of the ancestors,
making that connection with the ancient ways when life was lived using what they had around them and with ingenuity and invention. And you get your very own drum and drumstick at the end of it.
Drum-making can be fun for all sorts of occasions and groups – celebrations, grown-ups and children, and so on….we’re only limited by imagination, as they say.
We can offer you and your group a day working with rawhide and wood, to create something simple yet beautiful and meaningful. Our workshops usually run 10am-4pm. We can work with a group of up to 6 people at a time if we use your venue, as long as you have the space. See costs above.
Also of course – if you fancy your very own drum but don’t fancy the crafting process, I will happily take your commission and make it for you myself.
